Last Saturday I had the privilege to attend one of the Veggie ladies organic gardening courses. www.theveggielady.com
The day was amazing, I had such a great time, the course was full of great ladies & men who had fun personalities, there was amazing food and drink and extremely helpful information.
When we first arrived at Toni’s house (Toni is the famous Veggie lady) we were warmly welcomed and invited to try some of her delicious home made scones with some honey with lemon myrtle from her garden and great jams, sipped down with a soothing cup of tea or coffee. What a great way to start, and meet everyone.
To be honest, I was a bit worried going to this course as personally, I have never really done any type of gardening (well except spectator gardening, if that counts:)?) At our new place, we have a space for a wonderful sized veggie patch, and my husband is really keen for me to start one so we can have beautiful, fresh, crisp, and organic fruits and vegetables. However I have to be honest and say that Toni’s courses are really for any level. They are for the person who knows nothing about gardening to well, someone who knows a lot more. She adapts her course so well to suit every body and any body.
So from what I learint, why do I think it would be great to implement and start an organic garden in your own back yard? You may say that you don’t have space, but these days there are plenty of options to work around space, maybe for you, you could plant in pots, terracotta of cause. Even just try some herbs, these are something that we use a lot in cooking and is great to have at home.
Have you ever looked at organic fruit and vegetables and wondered why they are often smaller than what you may get from your traditional supermarkets or fruit stores? When you purchase fruit and vegetables from the big guys in the market, no names mentioned, you are not always getting what you pay for. Often fruits and vegetables are pumped with Nitrogen, fertilizers and water to get them to their shape and size (hello, this means that you will pay more per kilo) Often tomatoes and other fruits and vegetables are grown with a harder skin, as this helps with transportation, sadly these fruits and vegetables are grown at the expense of taste. Organic fruit and vegetables are often lower in water content, which really means you get more apple in your apple, or more carrot in your carrot. This means there is more of the fruit or vegg and less of the water and crap that they put in it. I like the sound of that, don’t you?
Having your own veggie garden I will be honest, it sounds like hard work, but most things in life that you can achieve something wonderful from do take some hard work and dedication and effort. I personally believe that having your own vegetable patch out the back, would be amazing. Imagine planning what you will have for dinner, and getting home and walking out into your yard and picking your own fresh vegetables, salad and fruit for that evening or the next day. You come in and wash it, and get it ready and prepared for cooking. You know the whole process of this little vegetables life, from when he was a little seedling, to his whole growing time, you know what you have used on it, so no harmful chemicals, and then straight from the garden into your kitchen to prepare a beautiful healthy meal. YUM!!! Sounds perfect.
And this is why Toni’s course, back yard veggies is so great, as it really empowers you with the tools and knowledge to be able to come home and start your own. Don’t worry if you can’t get to the course because you live in another state, or even country, or maybe don’t drive, as Toni is launching her courses online, so you can get in the action no matter what your location might be. Brilliant! See her site for more details.
So I will be taking photos of my veggie garden each step of the way to encourage you, that if I can do this…….SO CAN YOU!
So don’t wait, go out and have a look in your yard, and start dreaming about your amazing vegetable and fruit garden, and book a course with Toni, I highly recommend it, its something you wont regret. www.veggielady.com
Until next time, stay healthy and enjoy life,
Believing in you,
